WINDOW ROCK — The Navajo Nation Board of Election Supervisors has elected their new chair and vice chair.

Melvin Harrison, who represents the Fort Defiance Agency, was selected as the chair and Shirlee Bedonie, representative for the Western Agency, was selected as vice chair.

This year’s board includes Bertha Aguirre and Melvin Harrison, Fort Defiance Agency; Watona Kellywood and Sam Ahkeah, Shiprock Agency; Ruth Gilmore and Shirlee A. Bedonie, Western Agency; Mae-Gilene Begay, Chinle Agency; and Leslie Chavez and Arlene Nakai Brown, Eastern Agency. There is a vacancy on the board for a member from Chinle Agency.

The board supervises the Navajo Nation Election Administration, which is charged with making sure elections are carried out in an expedient and proper manner.
