{"id":16672,"date":"2017-12-21T00:17:16","date_gmt":"2017-12-21T00:17:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/testv45.demowebsitelinks.com\/ColleenKeane\/?p=16672"},"modified":"2023-10-03T00:21:45","modified_gmt":"2023-10-03T00:21:45","slug":"dine-college-faculty-group-presents-no-confidence-letter-to-provost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/testv45.demowebsitelinks.com\/ColleenKeane\/2017\/12\/21\/dine-college-faculty-group-presents-no-confidence-letter-to-provost\/","title":{"rendered":"Din\u00e9 College faculty group presents no-confidence letter to provost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>BY CINDY YURTH<\/strong><br \/>\nTS\u00c9YI\u2019 BUREAU<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHINLE<\/strong> \u2014 The Din\u00e9 College Faculty Association on Friday presented President Monty Roessel and Provost Geraldine Garrity a 25-page letter of no confidence in Garrity\u2019s leadership as provost, questioning Garrity\u2019s competence, financial savvy and ethics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout question, Garrity\u2019s unprofessional conduct continues to place the College and this Faculty Association in an untenable position,\u201d the letter states.<\/p>\n<p>The association also alleges Garrity does not meet the minimum requirements for the job, having only two years in a leadership position (chair of the Center for Din\u00e9 Teacher Education) rather than the five called for in the provost job description \u2014 which the faculty claims was adjusted so that Garrity could be hired.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe ask that the College President deal with this matter by either terminating Garrity, removing her and return her to a faculty position, or provide an improvement plan for her,\u201d the letter states.<\/p>\n<p>Garrity did not return two phone calls and Din\u00e9 College spokeswoman Valerie Tom would not comment on the record.<\/p>\n<p>Among the complaints in the letter:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Garrity is not following the college\u2019s plan for transitioning to a new organizational chart;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Garrity on multiple occasions has sent out communications listing two different times or dates for the same meeting;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Garrity ignored the recommendations of a task force on transitioning the college to university status;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Garrity circumvented the hiring process for one of the deans;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Garrity cut department budgets, \u201cdisregarding work done by faculty to justify budgets,\u201d and eliminated morale-boosters like the annual faculty appreciation dinner, bonuses and awards;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Garrity routinely hires or appoints people to do work she herself should be doing.<\/p>\n<p>Some faculty were also offended by a presentation by comedians James and Ernie, whom Garrity reportedly hired to help \u201crepair relationships\u201d with the faculty, saying the comedy routine demeaned women.<\/p>\n<p>The letter was written following a Dec. 1 Faculty Association meeting during which faculty voted unanimously to have the association research claims against Garrity and Human Resources Director Merle Dayzie.
