A collective voice comprised of the marchers rose above the federal and county courthouses, police station, and city hall.<\/p>\n<p>Holding up signs that read \u201cNODAPL,\u201d \u201cRespect Our Water and Culture,\u201d and \u201cEnd Colonialism and Imperialism,\u201d marchers expressed support for the Standing Rock Sioux Nation\u2019s fight against the North Dakota Access Pipeline construction.<\/p>\n<p>Just the day before, a federal court had denied an appeal by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to block continued construction near Lake Oahe, the Tribes\u2019 major water source and a sacred area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey say pipeline. We say genocide. We are here. We are standing with no fear,\u201d the marchers chanted as they circled the urban center, several pushing baby carriages, carrying their children or holding their hands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s going on at Standing Rock is appalling to me. It\u2019s as if our lands don\u2019t matter. (Energy companies) should respect our sacred land and not bulldoze it,\u201d said 22-year old Keioshiah Peter, Din\u00e9 from Kirtland.<\/p>\n<p>Peter said she joined the march to add her voice to the resistance against injustices like this one and ones occurring on tribal lands throughout the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe voices here are coming from a place of love. We are thinking of future generations,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m here to raise awareness about indigenous treatment, because it\u2019s near to my heart. We need people to pay attention.
