She was invited to participate because of her painting style.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve live-painted since high school,\u201d she said. \u201cBut this is my first Rezil- ience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bowen does mainly commissioned and privately funded work. The paint- ing she did during the Fun-Raising event was auctioned off to benefit the organization\u2019s future shows. Although she has a collection of works that she\u2019s done for herself, she said she\u2019s done work for people who want her paint- ings, usually portraiture, but whatev- er inspires her.<\/p>\n<p>Bowen\u2019s work can been viewed or purchased at: <a href=\"https:\/\/bowencreative.co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/bowencreative.co\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another soon-to-be-famous artist, George Alexander, Muscogee Creek, also participated in the live-paint. Alexander bills himself as just an artist. He has had a relatively short career as a painter, only five years, but the recent Institute of American Indian Arts graduate is already getting attention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just got accepted into the Studio Arts College International in Florence, Italy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>His current collection can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rationalmindsstudio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.rationalmindsstudio<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>RezArtX preview rolls out welcome mat for indigenous art experience<\/h3>\n<p><strong>BY COLLEEN KEANE<\/strong><br \/>\nSPECIAL TO THE TIMES<\/p>\n<p><strong>A LBUQUERQUE<\/strong> \u2013 An upbeat \u201cFun-raising\u201d preview party held last Friday night at a downtown hotspot gave a great taste of what\u2019s to come during this year\u2019s Rezilience Indigenous Arts Experience (RezArtX), April 29-30.<\/p>\n<p>There was music, dancing, paintings in the making by wellknown native artists, fashions, poetry, and some of the best brew in town.<\/p>\n<p>As reggae-rock band Innostate set up, DJ Way Fonkey, Jemez, warmed up the cozy interior of the DUEL Brewery with drum-rocking sounds.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the creative mix, RezArtX executive director War- ren Montoya, Santa Ana\/Santa Clara, said the events both the preview and upcoming ones, are all about having a good time with family and friends, new and old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why we called it a Fun-raiser,\u201d quipped Montoya referring to Friday\u2019s preview.<\/p>\n<p>Showcasing some of the RezArtX experiences to come, several artists were busy at work creating on-the-spot paintings and original designs for an art auction that would be held later that night.<\/p>\n<p>With his paint brush hitting the canvas in tune to the music, a dramatic face of a great, red wolf emerged in a work by Patrick Burnham, Din\u00e9\/Hopi, a painter, musician, and dancer, whose known in the art world as CloudFace.<\/p>\n<p>Set up next to CloudFace, Vanessa Bowen, Din\u00e9, brought to life a strong indigenous woman through geometric dimensions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want her to be powerful, breathtaking \u2013 enough to stop you in your tracks,\u201d she said as she turned her attention back to the canvas she was working on.<\/p>\n<p>Nearby, renowned Laguna potter Josephine Seymour demon- strated her more contemporary work called Wearable Art.<\/p>\n<p>Leaning back in her chair, a light illuminated a delicate figure of a lizard Seymour was painting on a brand new Converse tennis shoe.<\/p>\n<p>Across from her, a striking black and white image of a native elder from the 1920s surfaced as George Alexander, Muscogee<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16158\" src=\"https:\/\/testv45.demowebsitelinks.com\/ColleenKeane\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Screenshot_9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"387\" height=\"482\" srcset=\"https:\/\/testv45.demowebsitelinks.com\/ColleenKeane\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Screenshot_9.png 387w, https:\/\/testv45.demowebsitelinks.com\/ColleenKeane\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Screenshot_9-241x300.png 241w, https:\/\/testv45.demowebsitelinks.com\/ColleenKeane\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Screenshot_9-150x187.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 387px) 100vw, 387px\" \/><br \/>\nSPECIAL TO THE TIMES | J.
