WINDOW ROCK — Navajo Nation Police arrested a suspect Tuesday in an alleged shooting incident in Burnside, Arizona.

Nicole Macias, spokeswoman for the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President, said the arrest was made about 4 p.m.

She said the police had responded to a call about 45 minutes prior to the arrest relating to five gunshots fired in a residential area.

The male suspect led the police on a chase eastbound on Arizona Highway 264. He was apprehended in Window Rock.

The incident is under investigation and as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, no charges had been filed.

An article in the Feb. 23 edition titled “Northern bee smaller, less competitive than last year” incorrectly stated that no Navajo Nation contestant had made it past the second round at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Jay Lewis-Kraitsik, who won the Navajo Nation bee three times, progressed more than six rounds and placed seventh in the nation in 1997.
