ST. MICHAELS, Ariz. — St. Michaels Chapter President Janis Damon has declared a state of emergency for the community of St. Michaels due to severe winter weather conditions.

The emergency declaration will consist of grader services to community members and wood/coal delivery to those high-risk clients as a priority based on the community health representative’s recommendation.

The Apache County District II and District III supervisors will be assisting in grading roads for the community members in their perspective jurisdiction.

Nearby Navajo Nation government programs that have the available resources with staff and equipment will be called upon for additional assistance.

Effective date is from Jan. 21 to Jan. 31.

A graphic that appeared on Page A3 of the Jan. 19 issue of the Navajo Times did not display the correct data, although the numbers in the caption were correct. An article titled “Bears Ears victory celebration draws hundreds” on Page A2 of the Jan. 12 edition incorrectly states opponents of the monument did not attend the celebration. There were, in fact, opponents there handing out literature. A story on page A8 titled “More than a casino” states the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise has generated $1.2 billion from its four casinos. To clarify, this is the economic impact on Northwest New Mexico and Northeast Arizona, not generated revenue for the Navajo Nation.
